Felicidades to the Austin Community College community. In April, the college celebrated the grand reopening of the ACC Latin American Cultural Center, known as El Centro, at the Riverside Campus.

The new space aims to provide a safe and inclusive space for students to explore and celebrate their cultural heritage. Employees and the Austin community can also gather there to increase their understanding of cultural history and contributions of Latin Americans, according to ACC. It offers mentoring, training and activities to support the student academic journey.

A new mural by local artist and former ACC student Carmen Rangel was unveiled at the ceremony. It depicts a Latina woman on her first day of class. Rangel’s murals can be found throughout Austin including at places like Tacorrido on Riverside Drive and Juan in a Million on Cesar Chavez Street.
