It’s a Los Lobos world and we’re just living in it during South by Southwest, where the legendary Chicano band premiered their documentary “Los Lobos: Native Sons” and offered fans a couple of special shows filled with surprise guests.

The iconic rockeros from East Los Angeles โ€“ performing together for more than 50 years โ€“ still create live music magic. From goosebump inducing guitar solos to the surge of cultural pride and nostalgia poured into canciones like “Volver, Volver,” Los Lobos treated music fans to an epic performance at the noted Continental Club on Saturday night. The intimate venue with its storied history captured the spirit of the musical maestros who surprised the crowd when Ringo Garza of Los Lonely Boys briefly sat in on percussion.

Fan favorites like “Come on, Let’s Go” and “La Bamba” shook the club, and Los Lobos kept the mรบsica going after a red carpet appearance and successful documentary premiere the following day. Director Robert Rodriguez, who moderated their film Q&A, performed with them on stage at the Paramount Theatre for an unforgettable rendition of “Canciรณn del Mariachi” โ€“ a song which catapulted to new heights after it was featured on Rodriguez’ film “Desperado.”

Pero Los Lobos fever kept going as the musical giants hit the SXSW stage again for the festival’s Radio Day Stage on Monday at the Downright Austin’s backyard. As Los Lobos’ music keeps evolving over the decades, it continues to inspire new generations of fans navigating identity and cultura.
