Though Latinas in the workforce hold fewer management positions and earn less than other women, there has been an increase of Latina led business start-ups. Latinitas, an Austin-based non-profit organization, wants to help young Latina girls ages 9-14 develop the skills needed to be successful in a business environment with “Business Chica” on Apr. 26.

The event will include venture capital pitching coaches and mock investors from local business to help girls from third to eighth grade develop a pitch for a social business enterprise that they have been developing this month in Latinitas after school clubs. According to Latinitas founder Laura Donnelly, the girls were encouraged to brainstorm issues in their communities and develop a product or service to help. Volunteers from Capital Factory, Dell, General Electric, Charles Schwab and local start-ups Economic Growth Business Incubator, Lean Branding and the Greater Austin Hispanic Chamber of Commerce will help the girls follow through with a business pitch.

“Business Chica” will be held from 10 a.m.- 1 p.m. Apr. 26 at Capital Factory located at 701 Brazos Street Suite 1601.
