Last Friday for our Fania Friday MP3, we shared with you a beautiful salsa love song from Panamanian legend, Rubén Blades. Two weeks ago on Fania Friday, we shared with you a classic from the legendary Willie Colón. This week we are spotlighting the two salsa giants on one great track from the classic Fania album Canciones del Solar de los Aburridos titled “Ligia Elena.” When the two legends teamed up, they made some of the best salsa ever made. Colón brought his stellar arrangements while Blades brought his conscious lyircs and storytelling to the songs.

After many collaborations throughout the seventies and early eighties, the two had  falling out. The two never made an album together again until the mid-nineties. However, it wasn’t until 2003 in Puerto Rico that two legends shared the same stage again. Listen and download to this example of Colón and Blades together here on “Ligia Elena”.
