[9/13] Preview: Los Federales, La Frenetika & Guadaloops at The Sahara Lounge

Tonight popular East Side bar and live music venue The Sahara Lounge will play host to one of the most eclectic Alt-Latino showcases in Austin. The three band bill will include traditional vallenato, cumbia, psych-rock, hip-hip, reggae, ska and progressive rock. Each band, a headliner in their own right, is well worth a listen for those looking for new music to discover tonight.

Opening the show tonight at Mexico City-based hip-hop fusion duo The Guadaloops. The duo is currently on tour in support of their EP, Sólo Música, released in June of this year. The Guadaloops fuse Spanish language hip-hop with elements of funk, rock and electronica. Their set starts at 10 p.m.

Following The Guadaloops are Austin-based Gozaderos, La Frenetika. Their music is a medley of various original songs and covers of popular vallenato classics from South America. La Frenetika play at 11 p.m.

Headlining the night are Austin-based Los Federales. Formerly Ex-Machina, the group’s sound is a blend of upbeat reggae, Afro-Cuban rhythms with prog-rock and punk elements. Los Federales perform at midnight.

The Sahara Lounge is located at 1413 Webberville Rd. Doors open at 9 p.m. Music at 10 p.m. 21+ welcome. $6 cover at the door. Visit the Facebook event page here.
