[9/11] Preview: Matuto at Flamingo Cantina

MatutoThursday, Sept. 11, New York City-based Matuto will be performing a headlining concert at Flamingo Cantina. The night’s theme seems to be Brazilian-inspired all around as locals Seu Jacinto and DJ Canoso, aka Michael Crocket of KUTX 98.9, join the party. It makes us wish we knew how to say “awesome” in Portuguese.

Matuto classifies themselves as a “Brazilian Bluegrass” band. Their music stems from an honest love for roots music, genuine Brazilian styles, and improvisational experimentation. Clay Ross and Rob Curto officially started the band in 2009 when they played the massive REC BEAT festival on the Sunday of Brazilian Carnival in Recife. They have since performed internationally at clubs and festivals all over the country. They are touring in support of The Devil and the Diamond, released in May of 2013 via Motema Music.

Flamingo Cantina is located at 515 E. 6th Street. Doors open at 9 p.m. $10 cover. 21+ are welcome. Visit the Facebook event page here.
