[6/27] Preview: Los Skarnales 20 Year Anniversary show at Flamingo Cantina

Tonight Los Skarnales are performing at Flamingo Cantina to celebrate their 20 year anniversary as a band. Yes, 20 years. The original vatos rudos have held it together for longer than most of your favorite bands they inspired. What better way to celebrate that than with a show at their Austin home away from home?

Los Skarnales are the Texas answer to large ska-punk bands like Maldita Vecindad, Panteón Rococó and other popular Mexican bands that made the genre popular south of the border. The bilingual lyrics are backed by an eight member band with a full horn section. And while Los Skarnales have three excellent albums that prove ska can be fused with reggae, rockabilly, swing, mambo, cumbia, and danzones, it is the band’s live show that has garnered them the loyal and fanatical following they have today. See for yourself tonight at Flamingo Cantina.

To coincide with their 20 year anniversary, Los Skarnales released their newest album on June 20, Vatos Rudos Forver. It is a collection of 34 out-of-print rarities and previously unreleased material. Hardcore fans will go bat shit crazy for classics like “Waca-Mole” and my personal favorite, “Borracho.”

Opening tonight’s showcase at Flamingo Cantina will be Austin-based bands Los Kurados and The Ugly Beats.
