[5/23] Preview: Freedom Fest in Round Rock

Freedom Fest posterOn May 23, El Amistad Club of Round Rock continues their Memorial Day weekend tradition with this year’s event at Old Settler’s Park. Now in its 46th year, Freedom Fest (formerly known as Fiesta Amistad) is an event full of family-friendly food, music, and entertainment with an emphasis on Hispanic culture.

Tejano music is and has always been an important part of the event, and this year’s diverse lineup features Son de Rey and Grupo Stampede, and the legendary Little Joe y La Familia headlining the show. Here’s a look at the lineup, which is subject to change.

Freedom Fest schedule:

8 a.m. – noon: 5K Race and obstacle events
11 a.m. – noon: Veteran’s Recognition
11:15 a.m. – noon: The Texas KGB
Noon – 1 p.m.: Ballet Folklorico
12:30 p.m. – 1:30 p.m.: Whitestone
2-3 p.m.: Son de Rey
3:30-4:30 p.m.: The Carson Alexander Band
5-6:30 p.m.: Dale Watson
7-8:15 p.m.: Grupo Stampede
8:45 – 10 p.m.: Grupo Stampede
10:30 p.m. – 12:30 a.m.: Little Joe y La Familia

Long story short: Truly a family event with a little something for everyone.

It’s all taking place at Old Settler’s Park in Round Rock, located at 3300 E Palm Valley Blvd. No cover charge until 3 p.m. After 3 p.m., the cover is $15 for adults and $10 for Veterans with military ID and young adults 15-18.
