La Tropa FSaturday night, Mar. 29, La Tropa F and Grupo Maldad take over the Moose Lodge. Both groups are deeply rooted in conjunto, which is perfect for the eastside family dancehall.

La Tropa F began as a family conjunto way back when as Los Hermanos Farias, with David Farias on accordion. After changing the name, La Tropa F went on to great success during the 1990s and was at the top of the Tejano charts along with other acts like David Lee Garza y Los Musicales, Ram Herrera, and Selena. After scoring with hits like “Juan Sabor” and “Tocando Puertas,” the group later broke up, with David moving on to Los Texmaniacs with Max Baca, and ultimately re-forming Los Hermanos Farias with brothers Joe and Juan. The current lineup is led by Jesse Farias, and their newest album, Reedifica Su Musica, is now available on Freddie Records.

Formed in 2006, Grupo Maldad features the second generation of one of Tejano and Conjunto music’s most legendary, respected and beloved bands, Los Aguilares, along with seasoned veterans from Grupo Rodeo and other groups. The band has a strong, accordion-based sound rooted firmly in conjunto, courtesy of accordion player (and former student of the legendary Valerio Longoria) J.R. Ramos. Their albums Tradicion Humilde and Segundo Capitulo, have featured original songs as well as fantastic reinterpretations of popular standards.

Long story short: Has the makings of one hell of a show, especially if you like a strong conjunto heartbeat in your Tejano.

The Moose Lodge is located at 2103 E.M. Franklin Avenue, north of MLK and east of Airport Boulevard in East Austin. Doors open at 5:30 p.m., and the cover is $10 before 9 p.m., and $12 after 9 p.m. All ages are welcome.  For more information, contact the Moose Lodge at 512-926-0043.
