[3/15 – 3/16] Preview: Sounds From Spain
Every year The Spanish come to Austin for South By Southwest and bring some of the best, most diverse talent from all over the country. Last year it was at the Sounds From Spain showcase where we discovered Russian Red, Polock and re-discovered garage-rockers Capsula. Even Rolling Stone Magazine’s David Fricke was in attendance.
This year the people behind Sounds From Spain are doing it again, bringing you seven of the best bands and artists on the Spanish music scene at two showcases – Thursday, March 15 at the East Tent, Brush Square Park, from 12:00pm – 4:00pm, and on Friday, March 16 at Red Eye Fly (715 Red River St.) from 7.30pm till late.
This is the only opportunity to catch the much-hyped Bigott, a spontaneous, quirky artist whose good vibes and hilarious film-clips have brought him critical acclaim in Spain. Going beyond post-punk, Furguson don’t hold back on their energetic and experimental melodies, while L.A. pay homage to the Beatles and The Who while creating a uniquely Spanish take on modern pop-rock. For fans of improvisation, the electrifying performance of Za! will be a major highlight, and blues lovers will be blown away by Guadalupe Plata. Quique Gonzalez brings the folk and intimacy loved by Spanish audience to Austin, treating us to traditional Mexican and Spanish tunes and audience requests. Finally, Vetusta Morla‘s intense, unconventional rock, which has revolutionized the Spanish indie scene, will once again demonstrate why they have become the most successful indie band on the Spanish peninsular.
Sounds From Spain fosters and promotes Spanish music internationally and is the principal tool for Spanish companies looking to export music and achieve a wider presence in international markets. Sponsored by public and private institutions, Sounds From Spain represents the Spanish music industry and works hard to get the most exciting Spanish artists onto the international music scene.
