[10/19] Preview: Los Federales and Son De Rey at Gypsy Lounge

Tonight is one of the busiest nights of the year in terms of live Latin music happenings in Austin. With both Día De Los Muertos festivals happening during the day and early evening, East 6th takes over the night with DJ Orión at Volstead Lounge and neighboring bar/venue Gypsy Lounge  hosting a great local showcase featuring two unique Latin bands from Austin, Son De Rey and Los Federales.

Son De Rey is an Urban Tejano quartet whose music combines elements of pop, salsa, Tejano, cumbia and R&B. The group will even perform covers of popular top 40 hits with their own Latin twist, including “Careless Whisper” by George Michael (Wham!). The group is currently performing in support of their latest EP, Ojos Azules. Son De Rey perform at 10 p.m.

Headlining the night are Austin-based Los Federales. Formerly Ex-Machina, the group’s sound is a blend of upbeat reggae, Afro-Cuban rhythms with prog-rock and punk elements. Los Federales perform at midnight.

Gypsy Lounge is located at 1504 E. 6th Street. Doors open at 9 p.m. Show starts at 10 p.m. 21+ welcome. No cover.
