[1/18] Preview: Conjunto Los Pinkys celebrate Clemencia’s Birthday at the White Horse

pinkysSunday, Jan. 18, will be a very special evening at The White Horse. Austin’s own Conjunto Los Pinkys will continue their red-hot weekly residency while also celebrating drummer Clemencia Zapata’s birthday at the Eastside honky-tonk.

Legendary accordionists Chencho Flores and Isidro Samilpa have both performed in Austin for over a half century, beginning their careers back when East 6th Street was known as “Cantina Row.” Along with bandleader Bradley Jaye Williams on bajo quinto, and the rhythm section of Javier Cruz on bass and Clemencia Zapata on drums and percussion, Los Pinkys never disappoint and always keep the dancefloor full.

The group has become even more popular in recent years, attracting a whole new crowd of music lovers. Their regular Sunday night shows have become tradition over the past several years, and were even featured on KLRU’s Arts in Context series. Also, they are up for the Hall of Fame on this year’s Austin Chronicle Music Poll Ballot.

Long story short: If you haven’t seen Los Pinkys at the White Horse on a Sunday night, well…maybe this Sunday you should just say “Screw this! I’m going to the White Horse!” and celebrate Clemencia’s birthday while you’re at it.

The White Horse is located at 500 Comal in East Austin, a few blocks east of I-35. No cover and 21+ are welcome. Visit the Facebook event here.
