Saludos! Pan de muerto, sugar skulls and ofrendas mark one of my favorite times of the year when we observe Día de los Muertos in honor of our beloved difuntos.

  • Donate non-perishable food items to La Tiendita, a donation-supported pantry for students facing food insecurity at the University of Texas. La Tiendita, brought to you by UT’s Latino Studies and Black Studies program, accepts food donations including ramen noodles, granola bars and tuna packs. Email latinostudies@austin.utexas.edu to schedule a drop off.
  • Meals on Wheels needs volunteers this month for its senior delivery program.
  • Our community partners Freestyle Language Center are looking for a marketing/social media intern. It’s a chance to work with an organization that builds community and connection through language learning. Find the complete job description here.

It’s been such a challenging time in our comunidad, and we’re in awe of all the resilience we’ve seen through these times. So, we’d like to cheer on those who have been inspiring us lately.

  • Felicidades to all the winners and nominees of the HABLA Con Orgullo Awards, which celebrate leadership and community impact. Among the recipients of the awards presented by the Hispanic Advocates Business Leaders of Austin were Latina Legend Gloria Mata-Pennington and Latino Legend Saúl González. What a way to wrap up National Hispanic Heritage Month! Austin Vida was a proud media partner for the Latinos Unidos Mixer Oct. 14 at Tamale House.
