With many Latin American countries celebrating their independence this month, Sept. 15 marked the beginning of Hispanic Heritage Month, a period that honors the impact Hispanics have made in America. Premium cable channel HBO pays tribute to Latinos with their second installment of the documentary film series featuring notable Hispanics in The Latino List: Volume Two, premiering Sept. 24 on HBO Latino.
Directed by Timothy Greenfield-Sanders, the documentary is the sequel to last year’s The Latino List. This year, the film features Christy Turlington Burns, Victor Cruz, George Lopez, Soledad O’Brien and Raul Yzaguirre, among many other Latinos who have made a difference in society. With interviews conducted by National Public Radio correspondent Maria Hinojosa and Sandra Guzman, the Latinos featured discuss their background, their childhood inspirations, their path to success, the ever-changing cultural landscape they helped shape, the importance of maintaining a distinct cultural identity that future generations can grasp and the challenges faced by discrimination. The 14 Latinos featured come from a variety of cultural backgrounds and occupations that give a slight glimpse of the contributions Latinos have made.
The documentary debuts Sept. 24 at 9 p.m. EST. In case you miss it, the film will also air Sept. 25 at 9:30 a.m., Sept. 27 at 6:15 p.m. and 11:50 p.m. and Sept, 29 at 2:00 p.m.
